Nishmat’s Alisa Flatow International program offers a unique opportunity for English-speaking women of all ages, backgrounds and nationalities to study Jewish texts in a warm and intellectually stimulating environment. Nishmat’s hands-on approach to Torah study teaches women skills to understand and analyze classic texts, and to reflect on how they inform modern Jewish thought and practice. We offer beginner, intermediate and advanced level classes, allowing each student to grow in their Torah learning.
The Alisa Flatow Program prides itself on its diverse student body, exceptional and devoted scholars and Rabbis, and the opportunity to study Torah in the larger context of a bustling Beit Midrash with a variety of learners

Questions Answered

Nishmat, The Jeanie Schottenstein Center for Advanced Torah Study for Women, pioneered the education and certification of Yoatzot Halacha, Women Consultants in Jewish Law. Yoatzot Halacha are women certified by a panel of Orthodox rabbis to be a resource for women with questions regardingTaharat Hamishpachah (an area of Jewish Law that relates to marriage, sexuality and women’s health). This role was devised to assist women who are more comfortable discussing very personal issues with another woman. More than 110 certified Yoatzot Halacha serve Jewish women and couples throughout the world. Women preparing to become Yoatzot Halacha are chosen for their extensive Torah scholarship, leadership ability, and deep religious commitment. They receive training from experts in modern medicine and psychology, including gynecology, infertility, women’s health, family dynamics and sexuality.
Yoatzot Halacha can be reached through the website (in English, Hebrew, French, or Spanish) or by telephone (in Hebrew and English) at Nishmat’s Golda Koschitzky Women’s Halachic Hotline.
N.E.W. Nishmat Ethiopian Women

Over 90% of Ethiopian Girls Participating in the “Maayan Program” are Accepted To Bachelor’s Degree Studies

Nishmat presents a unique approach to the advancement of Ethiopian girls in Israel. Over the course of a period of one year, alongside Jewish studies, participants receive complete support and are provided with tools for their personal and professional advancement, enabling them to succeed in academic studies. The participants, who come from families in low socio-economic situations, would not have been able to allow themselves to continue on to higher education without this aid and support.

The Monique C. Katz Bet Midrash Chevrati: Nishmat’s Weekly Forum on Jewish Values and Social Responsibility
In 2011, Nishmat established the Bet Midrash Chevrati, a weekly forum on social justice and Jewish values. The program, headed by published author and Modi’in rabbi Haim Navon, punctuates Nishmat’s philosophy of participating in greater society while staying rooted in Torah, by promoting community involvement and social responsibility.
